I recently spent three days in the Nottingham and Derby region on a photography project for Oakhurst Conservatory Blinds to use to market their products on the John Lewis website and for John Lewis to create a promotional poster. The conservatories were all in everyday use by their owners who where all John Lewis clients. We had arranged to bring a good selection of props to assist in dressing the conservatories, and bearing in mind the budget considerations, worked with the homeowners’ own furniture.
Our objective was to create images that would evoke the emotions in people browsing for conservatory blinds, such as ‘the light breakfast for two’ in the image above.
In this second photograph, we set up a ‘celebratory lunch for friends or family’. I was on location with one of the owners of Oakhurst Blinds and while I set up lighting and took test shots, she visited Waitrose to purchase the lunch items. I had brought the flutes and champagne for this image.
Being in daily use, this conservatory is actually is a television room. On arrival, it had three very large reclining leather chairs occupying the room, which though perfect for comfortable television viewing did not portray the look we wanted. We removed the recliners and brought in furniture from the owner’s living room. The photograph set-up helped to focus attention on and maximize the impact of the special made-to measure ceiling blinds.
We’re now looking forward to our images being added to the John Lewis website to promote fitted conservatory blinds and see their promotional poster.
